DAB+ launch in Vietnam is expected in Q4 2022, following completion of trials.

Following an initial DAB+ trial in 2013, the second trial went on air in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh in October 2019. The Hanoi site was full time operation, Ho Chi Minh was part time. The objectives of the trial were to evaluate coverage parameters and test signal and sound quality.

  • Separation of transmission and broadcasting of radio and TV with content production
  • By 2020: Digital technology in the transmission and broadcasting of radio should be applied widely
  • Infrastructure: Establishing up to five regional and up to three nation-wide companies to provide transmission and broadcasting of TV services
New DAB trial to go on air in Vietnam

System integrator Emico and Paneda have signed an agreement for providing DAB multiplexer systems to the upcoming DAB trial in Vietnam. The system includes a full system in redundancy including content management for metadata. The system is planned to go on-air before the end of the year in the cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.

DAB+ trials announced in Thailand and Vietnam

A 20 month trial is expected to go on air in and around Bangkok this year, with a total of 11 stations set to take part in the trial.Vietnam is also ready to proceed with a further DAB+ to evaluate coverage parameters and test signal and sound quality in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. The trial is due to start in April 2019.

Symposium on the experimentation of DAB+ in Vietnam

(VOVworld) - National radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) organised a symposium on the experimentation of DAB+ digital radio broadcasting in Hanoi on Tuesday morning. Since 2006, WorldDAB has been implementing DAB+ standards with HE-AACv2. To date, 36 countries are applying these standards. Nguyên Xuân Huy, vice-president of the VOV said that VOV had deployed several plans to experiment with these new techniques. The VOV also shared its experience with its sisters of the world to find the most suitable solutions.

Vietnam Hosts DAB+ Demonstrations

Late July saw a three-day DAB+ Technology Workshop and Transmission Demonstration conducted in Hanoi, Vietnam (26, 27, 29 July). The event was jointly organised by WorldDMB and Voice of Vietnam and was supported by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). The workshop, organised in the lead up to the Radio Asia conference, 29 – 31 July was attended by more than 90 delegates from Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Macau and reflects growing interest in the DAB+ standard in the Asia Pacific.
