Russian Federation - Current situation - History

The Minister of Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Nikiforov, held a meeting on 17 April 2018 in Moscow at the time of the State Commission for Radio Frequencies (GKRC) when the possibility of deploying DAB+ was discussed, where appropriate and dependent on availability of spectrum.  

DAB+ has since been approved as a technical standard for digital radio in Russia - see relevant documentation on The General Radio Frequency Centre website here.

The Minister of Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Nikiforov, held a meeting on 17 April in Moscow of the State Commission for Radio Frequencies (GKRC) during which the possibility of deploying DAB+ was discussed, where appropriate and dependent on availability of spectrum.  Relevant regulation and licensing measures would also be required.

A decision on the DAB family of standards in Russia has not yet been made due to an issue with frequency availability. However some western manufacturers of DAB+ equipment have become interested in entering the Russian market and are willing to finance the deployment of an experimental broadcasting zone on trial.
