On 12 May 2026, Radio Televizija Crne Gore announced it had taken the first step towards digitalising the signal of Radio Montenegro (RCG). The programmes of the Montenegrin public broadcaster have been available via DAB+ technology in the capital area from 12 May. "DAB+ is now starting in Montenegro. We are talking about a test signal, and our listeners will be able to hear the first programme of Radio Montenegro and Radio 98, that is, the second programme of Radio Montenegro," said Vuk Perović, Director of Radio Montenegro. The complete technical implementation of the project was carried out by Radio-difuzni centar (RDC).
In October 2023, the Government of Montenegro, at the proposal of the Ministry of Culture and Media, adopted the Media Strategy 2023-2027, with the Action Plan for the period 2023-2024. This included the statement that: "it is necessary to... create conditions for the implementation of the first national multiplex for T-DAB+ technology through appropriate amendments to the Law on Digital Broadcasting."
Following this, in November 2024, the Ministry of Economic Development announced it would form a working body with the task of drafting amendments to the Law on Digital Broadcasting in order to create preconditions for the implementation of the project to introduce digital radio in Montenegro. One of the goals of the amendments is to enable the implementation of the Digital Radio project and the introduction of the DAB+ system, including the first national multiplex for T-DAB+ technology. In this context, the Ministry of Economic Development invited non-governmental organisations dealing with this field to delegate their representative as a member of the working group for drafting the bill.
A DAB+ trial officially went on air on 3 March 2021, covering the cities of Podgorica and Danilovgrad - and the surrounding areas, ceasing on 1 January 2022. More than 180,000 people were covered by the trial, which broadcast Rádio 98 and Radio Crne Gore.
