Italy - Current situation - History

Regular services in Italy started in December 2012 in the Trentino region following a decree by AGCOM. The decree was published in May 2012 assigning one block for national public radio and two blocks for national commercial (12A, 12B and 12C) and additional blocks for local services (12D, 10A, 10B 10C and 10D).
The Department of Communications released the licenses for the Trentino area to the private national operator Club DAB Italia and to local consortia DBTAA and Digiloc.

In 2013 regular broadcasting licenses were also assigned for the Alto Adige region and currently there are 5 multiplexes authorised.

Network expansion is continuing with Club DAB Italia and Rai has announced an extension plan to be completed within 2015. Additional regions will be licensed throughout 2014.
