TELEKO has started regular digital radio broadcasting using T-DAB in the Czech Republic on the 1st April 2011. Terrestrial digital radio transmitters operating in L-band, channel LA, in both Prague and Pribram were switched on.

TELEKO has started regular digital radio broadcasting using T-DAB in the Czech Republic on the 1st April 2011. Terrestrial digital radio transmitters operating in L-band, channel LA, in both Prague and Pribram were switched on.
The listeners are able to tune to the programs of public radio Český rozhlas Leonardo (science), Wave (alternative music) a D-dur (classical music), radio Proglas (religion) and DANCE RADIO at both towns.

The remaining spare capacity is available to carry further radio channels and accommodate dozens of other radio programs which are being prepared. It broadcasts in DAB and DAB+. 26 August 2010 - TELEKO has started new DAB comparation trial on channels 11D and LI in town Pribram. This broadcasting is supported by Czech radio, DANCE radio and radio PROGLAS.
The public broadcaster, Czech Radio and the TELEKO Company have run regular trials of DAB and DAB+ transmissions in cities such as Prague, Pribram, Plzen and Brno. The infrastructure is therefore in place to reach around 50% of the population when full roll out occurs.
The Czech Republic faces a similar issue as some other countries in that the ideal spectrum in Band III is currently used by terrestrial television. As a result, in 2009 the government advertised L-band frequencies but, ultimately, no licences ere awarded.
It is likely that digital radio broadcasts in the Czech Republic will use DAB+ in both L band and Band III.
