A major outdoor advertising campaign is underway in Australia promoting the uptake of DAB+ digital radio. The commercial radio industry in the country is continuing to drive awareness of digital radio in five cities with DAB+ with the launch of an extensive outdoor billboard and bus side campaign, plus a series of three new Father’s Day radio ads playing on 42 radio stations. Banners promote “25 extra free to air stations and digital sound quality” to help add to the 2.8 million people, or 21.4% of people listening to DAB+ digital radio each week.

The latest report from Commercial Radio Australia show positive growth in the uptake of digital radio. 2.8 million people or 21.4% are listening to DAB+ digital radio each week in the five state capital cities, while 1.8 million digital radio devices have been sold (includes the 100,000 vehicles). Nearly 100,000* (97,177) new vehicles have been sold with a DAB+ digital radio, and digital radio listening is at an all time high with 21.4% or almost 2.8 million people tuning in each week in the five metropolitan capital cities alone.

The Sangean extends its range of hybrid portable sets. The model combines FM (with RDS), DAB+ digital radio and internet radio. A colour display and smartphone app ensure the display of additional visual information. The WFR-27C with a black finish will be available in trade from late September.

Sumatronic has launched the first Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) repeater to comply with regulations set out by Swiss telecoms watchdog Bakom. The software engineering company is aiming the product chiefly at retailers with poor DAB radio reception because their premises have metal shutters, or are in a basement or large complex. The equipment includes a roof mast and reception antenna in the shop.
