All in Media, the leading developer of broadcast systems and mobile apps, believes that user-led technology will maintain radio as a key media in the 21st Century. The company, which is the main sponsor of this year’s Radio Festival TechCon event being held today at The Lowry, Salford Quays, says that the social media revolution and advances in smart phones and digital technology is providing a fresh impetus to the industry.

MW services mainly duplicate what is available on FM and DAB, and most listeners will be able to hear their local stations on FM. The BBC says that local radio will be available on DAB in the future if it is not already.

This year’s EBU Digital Radio Conference, held Oct. 10–11 here in Brussels, played host to more than 50 senior managers from public service radio broadcasters. Uk Radioplayer say they will be showing off a new prototype hybrid radio set at the Festival too – which allows listeners to pick a station regardless of platform, with the set choosing the strongest signal from FM, DAB or Internet radio.

egoFM will be available on DAB + to about 60 percent of households in the southwest. The program is produced by RADIO NEXT GENERATION in Munich.

“We are especially beginning to see opportunities internationally for DAB — one early project being in Norway, where they are shutting off FM signals and converting to DAB radio nationwide."

At the Drive 2 Digital conference held by Digital Radio UK at the BBC's new broadcasting house, Broadcast Minister Ed Vaizey announced the countdown to radio switchover now had inevitable momentum and that government would announce a decision on radio switchover in 2013.
