In cooperation with Agency for Electronic Media (media regulator) and HAKOM (frequency regulator) on 15th of November of 2018 OIV (network operator) entered into its second year of the DAB+ trial. With five transmitters within vicinity of the five largest cities in Croatia, coverage is now extended to 70% of population (3 mil.).

The Electronic Media Council opened a public call for expression of interest for programme licences in DAB+ technology for the western part of Croatia, for a trial period one year.

Test broadcasting of digital radio in Croatia started 20 November in the presence of the Prime Minister's Envoy, Minister Oleg Butković.

On the transmitters object Sljeme, located near the Capital of Zagreb, in the presence of the Envoy of the President of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Mr Oleg Butković ceremonially launched the test phase of 12 months for the broadcast of digital radio in the Republic of Croatia.

Among other guests, this important event was attended by the representatives of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM)  Dražen Lučić and Mario Weber, as well as the representatives of the Agency for Electronic Media (AEM) Robert Tomljenović and Davor Marić.

Minister Oleg Butković declared that more than two million listeners in the Republic of Croatia would be able to receive new digital radio signals  without interference, with more programmes and content.

In October 2017, the Electronic Media Council chose 16 existing FM broadcasters for broadcasting in DAB+ technology. The chosen radio stations are, as follows:  Radio 808, Radio  Kaj, Sjeverni  FM, Radio Koprivnica, Radio Istra, Antena radio, Radio Zabok, Narodni radio, Radio Dalmacija , GOLD FM, Radio Banovina, Enter Zagreb, Trend radio, Radio Martin, Soundset Trsat and Radio 101.

OIV started 20 November 2017 with four transmitters sites in north-west Croatia;
- Sljeme, with 5kW of radiated power (ERP), on channel 9C
- Ivanscica, 1.25kW ERP, channel 9C
- Mirkovica, 1kW ERP, channel 9C
- Ucka, 8kW ERP, channel 9C
The first three transmitters will work in SFN, and Ucka is seperate. Coverage according to OIV's calculations should be 1.6 million for indoor and around 2.1 million for outdoor reception, please see coverage map below.

The trial is starting with the same bitrate for all audio services, 72kbps. All services are using 3A protection. The parameters are subject to change since this is a trial.
No separate data services at this moment. Just DLS; text and logo of each station.
OIV is negotiating with some of the broadcasters to put in SLS service, but it’s not in yet.
The ensemble ID is C201 (C for Croatia, 2 for regional coverage, 01 as first MUX in this area).

The chosen radio stations are, as follows:  Radio 808, Radio  Kaj, Sjeverni  FM, Radio Koprivnica, Radio Istra, Antena radio, Radio Zabok, Narodni radio, Radio Dalmacija , GOLD FM, Radio Banovina, Enter Zagreb, Trend radio, Radio Martin, Soundset Trsat and Radio 101.

In cooperation with Agency for Electronic Media (media regulator) and HAKOM (frequency regulator) on 15th of November of 2018 OIV (network operator) entered into its second year of the DAB+ trial. With five transmitters within vicinity of the five largest cities in Croatia, coverage is now extended to 70% of population (3 mil.).

The past trials using DAB were launched by Croatian Radio Television (HRT), the biggest Croatian public broadcaster, in 1997. Centred around Zagreb, the HRT multiplex broadcasted simulcasts of its three national radio services at the frequency 227.36 MHz (Channel 12C). DAB coverage existed in northern Croatia around the capital city of Zagreb and its suburbs. The network could potentially reach 1.2 million people, or around 20% of the Croatian population.

This trial was completed in late February 2011.

Croatia's Electronic Media Agency announced the 16 radio stations that will soon start broadcasting over DAB+. After an initial solicitation to gauge the level of interest, 25 applicants were identified; 18 of which accepted the technical, organizational and financial conditions in their entirety.
