At the WorldDAB General Assembly in Vienna, Director of RAS, Georg Plattner explained the digital radio market in Italy. Georg Plattner illustrated that the RAS system was adopted to ensure proper reception of radio programmes via DAB+. He also noted how DAB+ allows the Civil Protection Agency to warn people in emergency situations via digital radio.

The three private radio stations in the South-East of Switzerland (RSO, radio 3i and Radio Fiume Ticino) and SRG have decided to cooperate. From today, the three stations which currently broadcast on the SRG layer can now also be received via DAB+. SRG has created space for three private radios in the areas of Italian-speaking Switzerland and Graubünden by reducing the bandwidth of the SRG transmitters.

Radio listeners in the Flensburg region will get their NDR programmes in even better quality. On Tuesday, November 22, a new transmitter for DAB+ will be put into operation in Flensburg-Engelsby.

In Switzerland the public broadcasters have discontinued their broadcasts via DAB and will now broadcast exclusively via DAB+. In addition to this several radio stations have moved and expanded their offering.

Starting from 31 January 2017, the RAS (Radiotelevisione special agency) will broadcast via DAB+. DAB+ will make improvements to sound quality, the reception, which will be free of interference, and also to the variety of radio stations available, which will increase to nearly 70.

Norway is the first country in the world to switch off FM and transition to DAB+ digital radio. Currently, more than 60% of the radio listening in Norway is already digital. The digital switchover in Norway begins on January 11, 2017, in the Nordland area of the county.

On November 15, the full transition from DAB to DAB+ took place in Switzerland. Tthere are plans to gradually reduce the FM distribution from 2020, this process should be completed in 2024. Figures from earlier this year show that more than half of the listening time in Switzerland spent digitally.

Switzerland is leading the world with the DAB+ population coverage by covering most of its major roads. According to the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), DAB+ will be available in 200 motorway tunnels throughout Switzerland by the end of 2018.
