Danish government will deploy FM channels in 2021

The Danish government announced on Thursday that it is time to switch off the FM radio, following the example of Norway. By the end of 2021, national broadcasters may only broadcast via DAB+. Denmark already decided in 2015 that FM would be switched off within two years, as soon as the percentage of digital listeners would exceed 50 percent. Currently, that percentage of DAB listeners is 38 percent.

Danish government proposes to shut down FM radio broadcasts by 2021

The Danish government recently announced new media policies, and among them is a proposal that the FM band be shut down by 2021, reports radionytt.se. DAB+ tenders open in Bordeaux to Toulouse region

France's Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel (CSA) will focus on the region between Bordeaux and Toulouse as part of its DAB+ roadmap. Bordeaux will have 26 radio stations broadcast digitally thanks to a local allotment. Toulouse will broadcast 39 digital stations, 26 spread over two local multiplexes, and 13 on the extended multiplex.

"Up to ten million listeners could already be affected from Wednesday by a shutdown of their FM radio stations," said Media Broadcast boss Wolfgang Breuer.
