Digital station United DJs has added the Portsmouth small-scale DAB multiplex to its transmission areas this weekend. An official launch was held at an event on the Isle of Wight with presenter Mike Read in attendance. He hosted his breakfast show and a Saturday afternoon show live from the Jack Up The 80s Festival on the island.

Xperi has announced that its DTS Connected Radio technology is being integrated into the cars of a major global automotive brand and is planned for commercial launch next year. Utilising an IP connection installed in a vehicle, DTS Connected Radio delivers an innovative AM/FM and digital (DAB and HD Radio) experience by pairing broadcast programming with IP-delivered content.

Leading the charge for the growth of digital radio is Commercial Radio Australia (CRA), the national industry body representing Australia’s commercial radio broadcasters. At the helm is CEO Joan Warner, who said digital radio’s success is based around one key point of difference: variety.

The Danish speaker manufacturer Tangent launches radio with DAB + and a stereo speaker with Chromecast.

It caters for both worlds, being a DAB+ and FM Radio, yet doubling as a Bluetooth speaker too. There is a backlit LCD display that shows you the radio station tuned into, with five direct DAB and FM preset buttons to find your favourites quickly.

Up to 30 radio stations will be broadcast in the Berlin and Brandenburg regions on DAB+ via two digital multiplexes, with services to begin by September.

I would buy an aftermarket DAB adaptor, though I'd personally get a device that can receive DAB+ because then you can also use it abroad I'd recommend the Pure Highway 600...

With its DAB+ software library, the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS offers a software defined radio solution that enables the implementation of digital radios with DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting) functionality. The update to the established library uses efficient spur suppression technology to significantly improve the quality of digital radio reception, and enhances the reception sensitivity of radio receivers, and extends the range of coverage for broadcasters and increases the number of channels that can be received in vehicles.

The head of Norwegian private radio station P4 Kenneth Andresen alongside Digital Radio Norway have hailed increasing DAB+ listening figures. "If we look at the second quarter, a total of 1,149,000 Norwegians heard the program P4 daily. A year ago, so with VHF, there were only 1,011,000. Last year our listeners listened to our programs for an average of 73 minutes a day. This year, the number will rise to 79 minutes," says P4 Manager Andresen.
