The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony will be held on Friday 8th August 2008 and will signal the start of the first digital Olympics.  This is a historic event, and the public broadcaster Beijing Jolon will be broadcasting mobile TV based on the Eureka 147 family of standards in Beijing and other cities around China

Who's broadcasting? 

Beijing Jolon will be broadcasting mobile TV; Beijing Jolon Digital Media Broadcasting Co., Ltd., was founded by Radio Beijing Corporation in January 2005. Beijing Radio Station was awarded the exclusive DAB broadcasting license from the Chinese regulator, SARFT, in Beijing. Beijing Jolon launched DAB multimedia services in Beijing in 2006.

What's on-air?

There are currently four mobile TV channels on-air in Beijing and during the 2008 Olympics these will broadcast CCTV Olympic programmes:

CCTV-1 - provides an overview of the Olympics with news round-ups and coverage of sports such as: swimming, diving, weightlifting, athletics and also football, basketbal, volleyball and sychronised swimming.

 CCTV-2 - mainly broadcasting coverage of sports which are of interest to  Chinese audiences like football, basketball, volleyball, archery, rhythmic  gymnastics, equestrian, saile and also judo, wrestling, taekwondo, rowing and  canoeing. During the Games the channel will broadcast live on a 24-hour basis.

CCTV-5 - (The Olympic Channel) highlights the events in which Chinese athletes are participating: shooting, gymnastics, table tennis, badminton, athletics, swimming and supplemented with football, basketball, volleyball and fencing.

CCTV-7 - this channel enjoys high coverage and ratings in China's rural areas.  The channel will have special Olympic broadcasts during the Games and will replay top-level competitions for those in rural areas.

There are also currently 15 DAB digital radio services on-air in Beijing during the Olympics:

DAB also supports various multimedia applications including; Electronic Programme Guides, Slideshow, MOT, TPEG, Surround sound, BIFS and Journaline - which will be demonstrated during the Olympics.
