So you want to trial DAB, DAB+, DMB services
Before starting commercial services many countries carry out a test and or trial to demonstrate the benefits of DAB, DAB+ and DMB to influence key decision makers and raise consumer awareness while show the benefits offered by this technology platform.
Tests and trials are essential in driving markets forward and WorldDMB highly recommends a test or trial be carried out in your country as part of your digital migration plan.
Tests and trials need careful planning, management and measurement in order to be successful, areas which need to be considered include:
- Is there spectrum available and how do you regulate a test/trial?
- How do you choose the coverage area?
- How many transmitters are needed to cover this area and which transmitters sites are the most appropriate?
- What professional equipment do you need to run a test/trial?
- Which receivers are needed for this test/trial?
- What are the experiences of other broadcasters in running tests/trials?
- How long will the test/trial last and will the lead to an automatic commercial launch?
- Most importantly - What are the costs involved in running a test/trial?
To make a test or trial truely effective the content on-air must be attractive and show the added value services which make digital radio more attractive than analogue. Alliances with new key players including retailers need to be made to help support the trial and finally a way to measure it's success must be put in place.
