Bezeq, the Israel Telecommunications Corporation, has been piloting DAB transmissions since 1996, using 12/VHF channel. By the end of 1998 Bezeq started the second stage of DAB broadcasting. There are now six transmitters (250W to 1kW) in an SFN configuration (Givataim, Haifa, Beer Sheva, Jerusalem Eitanim and Hadera) covering about 85% of the Israeli population. The multiplex contains seven stereo programs. In the future with the official permission to broadcast on a regular basis, Bezeq plan to change the frequency inside VHF Band III subject to the approval from the Israeli Ministry of Communication. Currently negotiations are underway with potential customers with regard to permanent DAB broadcasting.
