In April 2009, a Ministerial Decree was released, confirming that the DAB family will be the official standard for digital radio broadcasting in Indonesia in Band III. The DAB family has a long history in Indonesia with the regulator and MNC (PT Media Nusantara Citra) launching DMB trials in Jakarta in 2006. In mid 2007 the PST Indonesian electronics company, PT Agis, IPTV systems integrator, Broadband Network Systems and Toshiba joined together to build a nationwide DMB service in Indonesia. A full commercial launch of the service is planned for both DMB and DVB-H in the country. PT Media and Nasantara Citra (MNC) and DMB Nusantara have won the license to provide mobile TV in Jakarta and there are plans for further tests in Bandung, Medan and Surabaya.

The regulator and MNC (the largest media company in Indonesia) first began DMB trials in Jakarta in 2006. In Summer 2008 the Ministry of Communication and Information for the Republic of Indonesia held a one day workshop on the future development of DAB and DMB in the country.  There are still plans to launch a commercial DMB service in 2008, which will offer mobile TV on a subscription basis (but at an affordable price).  Further trials are planned for DAB and DMB in Bandung, Medan and Surabaya. The benefit of using DMB in Indonesia is that a single frequency could be used to cover the whole of the country.
